Lt. Cdr. Abhilash Tomy

Indian Navy

Lieutenant Commander Abhilash, aged 34 of Indian Navy, circumnavigated the globe (solo, non-stop and unassisted) in 151 days. Abhilash is the 1st Indian, 2nd Asian and 79th person in the world to carry out such a mission while sailing south of the three great capes. The rarity of the achievement is such that almost ten times the number of people have gone to space and 100 times more have climbed the Everest. Abhilash waited for 11 years for this opportunity on the 56-feet boat, Mhadei, with 70 foot high sails. Abhilash was mentored by Cdr DilipDonde and is also Winner of Kirti Chakra (National Gallantry Award) and Tenzing Norgay Adventure Award.
